With a total value of more than one billion Qatari riyals
Qatar General Electricity and Water Corporation "KAHRAMAA" signed on Sunday August 16, 2020 two 3-year contracts for the supply of power cables with Aamal Cables for Trading and Contracting, and Qatar International Cables Company on a supply on demand basis, with a total value exceeding 1.015 billion Qatari riyals (one billion and fifteen million Qatari riyals).
The agreement was signed by Eng. Issa bin Hilal Al-Kuwari, President of the Qatar General Electricity and Water Corporation "KAHRAMAA", HE Sheikh Faisal bin Qassem Al Thani, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Aamal Cables for Trading and Contracting, and Mr. Patrick Siu, Executive Director of Qatar International Cables Company, in the presence of a number of directors and officials from both KAHRAMAA and the signing companies. The signing ceremony took place remotely via live broadcast.
The signing of the contracts is part of KAHRAMAA’s efforts to develop the infrastructure of the electricity sector in the State of Qatar, which is witnessing steady growth as a result of the increasing demand for electricity and the construction boom in the country. Signing contracts with two Qatari companies is also an affirmation of the ability of local companies to keep pace with development plans in various sectors in a way that supports the competitiveness of the Qatari economy.
The value of the contract signed with Aamal Cables for Trading and Contracting (Doha Cables) is about 695 million Qatari riyals, while the value of the contract with Qatar International Cables (QICC) exceeds 320 million Qatari riyals, both amounting to a total value exceeding 1.015 billion Qatari riyals (one billion and fifteen million Qatari riyals) for the supply of 7.3 km low and medium voltage cables.
Under the two contracts, the supplying company stores the materials in its warehouses and supplies them directly to KAHRAMAA within two days of the issuance of the supply order. These two contracts come as an extension of KAHRAMAA’s pioneering experience in the field of supply on demand agreements, as it had previously concluded several contracts of the kind with different companies.
Pursuant to the principle of economic innovation, KAHRAMAA is working to diversify its sources locally and internationally. It also encourages and supports the local market by giving priority to Qatari companies in accordance with the rules of preference for national products stipulated in the relevant legislations and in line with the state’s strategies to encourage the private sector. KAHRAMAA also provides technical support for local factories to qualify them for listing on the suppliers list.
For a while now, KAHRAMAA has been entering into agreements with local factories to supply cables through a number of contracts with Doha Cables and Qatar International Cables Company with a total value exceeding 1.6 billion Qatari riyals (one billion and one hundred million Qatari riyals). Through these contracts, local companies were given priority in infrastructure projects, including electricity and water projects. Promoting and supporting local industry serves the expansions taking place now in urban areas, whether on citizen-owned or new industrial areas, as well as new projects in the country.
