KAHRAMAA celebrates 7th Tarsheed Anniversary

Under the generous patronage of His Highness Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al- Thani, the Amir of the State of Qatar, Qatar General Electricity & Water Corporation (KAHRAMAA) organized the seventh anniversary of its ongoing National Program for Conservation and Energy Efficiency (Tarsheed) at Sheraton Doha under the slogan “Towards Sustainability’’.
 
The grand and glittering event was graced with the presence of the Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, HE Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa Al Thani, the Minister of State for Energy Affairs, HE Eng. Saad Bin Sherida Al- Kaabi, KAHRAMAA’s president and Chairman of the Steering Committee of the National Program for Conservation and Energy Efficiency (Tarsheed), HE Eng. Essa Bin Hilal Al-Kuwari, ministers, dignitaries, diplomats, high level officials from different sectors.
 
HE Eng. Essa Bin Hilal Al-Kuwari delivered a speech at the beginning of the ceremony in which he presented the outcomes and achievements of the National Program for Conservation and Energy Efficiency "Tarsheed". A short film entitled "Towards Sustainability" was also shown depicting the milestones of Tarsheed during 2018, which marks the first year of its second phase with its new initiatives and upcoming plans until 2022.
 
Tarsheed program in 2018 has significantly resulted in reduction of electricity consumption of 6295 GWh, water consumption of 33.22 million m3 and natural gas consumption of 60642 MCF (million cubic feet), representing a financial saving of QR 1.75 billion, despite the challenges faced by Qatar since the illegal blockade and remarkable growths of overall economy with the sincere efforts of the Government in year 2017 and 2018.
 
The ceremony was attended by a group of children who helped raising awareness about the objectives of the National Program for Conservation and Energy Efficiency "Tarsheed" and the importance of commitment of the new generation to work to achieve by reducing the consumption of electricity and water for energy efficiency and environmental conservation.
 
During the ceremony, the Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, His Excellency Sheikh Abdullah Bin Nasser Al-Thani honored the winners of Tarsheed’s seven competitions this year. The competitions held were Tarsheed Conserving Building Competition with the theme “Green from Ground Up”, Best Renewable Energy Initiative with the theme “Turn to Green Energy”, Best Performance Award for District Cooling System with the theme “District Cooling for Sustainable Qatar”, Tarsheed Best Poster Design Competition with the theme “Towards the future 2030”, Best Sustainable Design Competition with the theme  “Be part of a greener tomorrow”, Best Graduation Project for Energy Efficiency with theme “Envisioning for Sustainable Future” and Tarsheed Story Writing Competition with theme “Write a story about sustainability”. All contests had been designed to target each segments of the society to ensure the involvements of entire community in raising awareness about conservation and environment.
 
The celebration also witnessed the felicitation of the winners of Tarsheed 2022 project which is being run by the strategic partnership between KAHRAMAA and the Supreme Committee for Delivery and Legacy (SC), with the presence of SC’s Secretary General HE Mr. Hassan Al-Thawadi.
 
The entries for all the contests were evaluated in several phases by a panel of experts representing research centers, universities; ministries among others.

On the sideline of the celebration, KAHRAMAA also held a Tarsheed exhibition for winning and participating graduation projects, posters, short stories, where there was a booth for T22 project.
 
Qatar National Electricity and Water Corporation (KAHRAMAA) had launched the National Program for the Conservation and Energy Efficiency (Tarsheed) on Earth Day, April 22, 2012 with the slogan "Keep Qatar pulsing" under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al Thani, the Amir of the country. Through Tarsheed, KAHRAMAA is increasing awareness about conservation and energy efficiency in all sectors and all walks of lives to reduce the harmful impact of carbon emissions. KAHRAMAA is striving to inculcate and create awareness of conservation and energy efficiency in all sectors to reduce the per capita consumptions of water and electricity and carbon emissions. The program aims to reduce per capita electricity consumption by 6%, water by 10%, and harmful carbon emissions by 7% until 2022.
 
Seizing the opportunity, KAHRAMAA extended its sincere thanks and gratitude to His Highness Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al Thani, the Amir of the Qatar for his generous support to all the institutions of the State and to His Excellency Sheikh Abdullah Bin Nasser Bin Khalifa Al Thani, Prime Minister and Minister of Interior for his support and guidance and diligent follow-up with all ministries, institutions and strategic projects in Qatar.  Media was also appreciated for their support in success journey of the National Program for Conservation and Energy Efficiency (Tarsheed) and last but not the least citizens, residents and all sectors were praised for their continued support to achieve all milestones set by Tarsheed.
