Qatar General Electricity and Water Corporation “Kahramaa" announced that its Awareness Park has won the 2025 Gulf Excellence Award for Energy and Water Efficiency in Buildings, in the educational sector category. This achievement enhances its position as a leading model for energy efficiency and sustainability in the region. The award was presented by His Excellency Dr. Subaih Abdulaziz Al-Mukhaizeem, Minister of Electricity, Water, and Renewable Energy, Minister of Finance, and Minister of State for Economic Affairs and Investment.
Kahramaa Awareness Park is a pioneering model in sustainability and innovation, utilizing advanced technologies to optimize electricity and water consumption in alignment with Qatar National Vision 2030. In this context, His Excellency Eng. Abdulla Bin Ali Al-Theyab, President of Kahramaa, stated: “This achievement reflects our firm commitment to sustainability and innovation. The Awareness Park is not just a building—it is a beacon of knowledge and a driver of positive change in society".
Inspired by Qatar's natural environment, the park's design incorporates eco-friendly materials, advanced thermal insulation, and three renewable energy sources (solar, wind, and thermal), making it a model of green architecture. The building also features smart systems, innovative irrigation technologies, and water recycling systems that reduce resource consumption, enhance natural lighting, and promote sustainable transportation.
The park's renewable energy systems include 63.85 kW solar panels, wind turbines, solar thermal collectors, advanced storage systems, and energy-efficient technologies such as a smart building management system, high-efficiency air conditioning, and energy-saving lighting. It also includes low-flow fixtures and water efficiency systems, which have significantly reduced energy and water consumption and qualified the park for several leading sustainability certifications.
The park plays a vital role in environmental awareness and community responsibility through public programs such as the Tarsheed Carnival, interactive exhibitions, and annual summer camps, which have educated thousands of students and visitors on sustainable practices.
Eng. Rashid Al-Rahimi, Director of the Conservation and Energy Efficiency Department, noted that the park “embodies Kahramaa's vision and the goals of the National Program for Conservation and Energy Efficiency 'Tarsheed' by integrating technology, education, and community engagement through its advanced systems and awareness programs."
The park aims to instill a culture of conservation and support Qatar's sustainable future through its advanced systems and educational initiatives. It also promotes environmental values and links them to daily behavior, especially among youth and students. The park offers interactive educational tours, exhibitions using AI and virtual reality, a gym that generates energy from movement, and strong partnerships with schools, universities, and international organizations, including UNESCO.
The park welcomes over 75,000 visitors annually, with a special focus on students, researchers, and families. Its educational programs include the Tarsheed Carnival, summer camps, and live experiences that make sustainability fun and accessible for all ages. It also features an interactive library in collaboration with Qatar National Library and inclusive facilities for people with disabilities, promoting lifelong learning and community responsibility.
The park actively contributes to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals as part of UNESCO's Water Museums Network. Through its commitment to interactive education, lifelong learning, and climate action, it empowers youth to understand environmental challenges, fosters a culture of conservation, and highlights innovative renewable energy and efficiency technologies, earning widespread recognition through numerous international, regional, and local awards.
