The signing ceremony took place in KAHRAMAA Main Building. His Excellency Eng. Essa bin Hilal Al-Kuwari, President of KAHRAMAA, and Eng. Mohammed bin Nasser Al Hajri, Managing Director of QEWC, signed the MoU representing their respective entities, and President and Director of Chubu Electric Power, Mr. Kingo Hayashi signed on behalf of the Japanese company.
Al-Kuwari praised the continuation of cooperation between KAHRAMAA, QEWC and Chubu Electric Power, saying: “Our partnership with Chubu Electric Power extends for 15 years, and we are pleased to continue this fruitful cooperation and valuable partnership that will benefit Qatari electric power sector."
In the same vein, Al-Kuwari added: “This continued partnership comes in the context of our ongoing efforts to support Qatari electrical infrastructure with the latest systems and modern technologies. We aim at improving our services and delivering a comprehensive digital transition to make Qatar a global leader in the sector."
Eng. Mohammed bin Nasser Al Hajri, Board Member and Managing Director of QEWC said: “The seventh renewal of the memorandum of understanding demonstrates the strength of the relationship between QEWC, KAHRAMAA, and Chubu Electric.
Al-Hajri also stressed the importance of cooperation and sharing experience in the fields of environmental protection, safety management, and maintenance quality, in addition to developing Qatari human resources through exchanging visits between both parties.
In the upcoming phase of this partnership between Kahramaa and Chubu, work will focus on further developing substations and education projects in the field of human resources. Furthermore, both parties will collaborate closely on activating multiple joint ventures related to safety management and customer service, and they will work on projects related to the pioneering Smart Meters project implemented by KAHRAMAA across Qatar.
It is also decided to continue work through two working groups, one of which is related to 'Energy Systems' that brings together KAHRAMAA and Chubu. This working group will be supporting KAHRAMAA's scope of the responsibilities as the sole transmission and distribution system owner and operator for the electricity and water in Qatar. Another working group will specialize in 'Power Generation' which includes QEWC and Chubu, as part of supporting the company's role as a major provider of electricity and water in Qatar.
Over the past decade, this partnership has played an important role in supporting the continuous development of the sector in a way that benefited the national economy in Qatar. It is worth noting that Chubu was one of the foundation customers of Qatari Liquefied Natural Gas, as the company received the first shipment back in 1997.
