Qatar General Electricity & Water Corporation “KAHRAMAA” has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Japanese Company “Marubeni” to evolve an energy efficiency platform to strengthen the efforts of the National Program for Conservation and Energy Efficiency “Tarsheed” through its new sustainability initiative and preserving the State’s energy resources.
The MoU has been signed by H.E. Eng. Essa bin Hilal Al-Kuwari, the KAHRAMAA’s President, and Mr. Satoru Harada, Marubeni’s Chief Operating Officer.
The initiative will rely on the electronic control panels and interactive measurement mechanism to measure the customer’s consumptions and associated behavioral changes while using energy at house.
The customer will be required to fill in a questionnaire to determine the consumption pattern plan for each residential category according to the type of housing, the number of residents in the house, and other updates. Moreover, the initiative will launch an effective app which will enable the customer to have a smart plan according to the actual home consumption pattern to achieve the targeted reduction for every customer. This initiative will contribute to reduce electricity and water consumption in the residential sector by 5%, and will last for an year.
This initiative comes as a continuation of efforts provided by KAHRAMAA, represented by Conservation and Energy Efficiency Department, to achieve sustainability development according to Qatar Vision 2030 and the objectives of sustainable development goals for the community awareness to ensure the efficiency of electricity and water in Qatar through the initiatives of the National Program for Conservation and Energy Efficiency “Tarsheed”. The platform is one of its latest initiatives that will contribute in achieving the desired reduction and the results will be announced in the first half of 2020.
It’s worth mentioning that the KAHRAMAA had signed a similar memorandum in April 2019 with the leading Japanese Company in the field of energy, through which the first photovoltaic station was established to store energy and charge electric vehicles in Qatar as well as operating the pilot project to produce the clean energy via solar panels to invest the clean energy in charging the electric cars. These projects contributed in reducing the harmful carbon emissions, which is the most important objectives of the National Program “Tarsheed”.
