KAHRAMAA gets new regulations from Ministry of Environment for Tarsheed drive

Qatar General Electricity & Water Corporation (KAHRAMAA) has added a new achievement in its ongoing National Campaign for the Conservation and Efficient use of Water and Electricity (Tarsheed) after getting a new regulation recently from Qatar’s Ministry of Environment over import of electrical appliances.
 
The new regulation which aims at maintaining Qatar’s wealth of energy and environment is in line with Qatar National Vision 2013 will be effective from the first day of upcoming new year. The environment- friendly regulation has come out with the joint efforts of KAHRAMAA, Ministry of Environment and Ministry of Economy and Trade of Qatar.
 
The new regulation covers Energy- saving air conditioners and Incandescent Light bulbs/lamps (Tungsten). It will allow the import of Energy- saving air conditioners (window and split only) which are in accordance with Qatari standard approved QS SASO 2663/2013 and the Energy Efficiency Rate (EER) of these air conditioners shall not be less than 8.5 Btu/hour. The import will be subjected to the submission of an original certificate from an accredited laboratory (ISO 17025 certified) proving that the specifications of the air conditioners is in conformity with the requirements and criteria set forth in the approved Qatari standard QS 2663.
 
In addition to it, the import of Incandescent light bulbs/lamps (Tungsten) will be banned for its negative impact on energy consumption and environment. In the first phase, the ban will be applicable on categories as 100w and 75w light bulbs/lamps. The import of energy- saving lamps shall be allowed subject to having an original certificate from the factory in accordance with the approved Qatari standards.
 
Tarsheed campaign, through its multi- folded strategies and programmes, aims at reaching all segments of the society and KAHRAMAA’s customers to create awareness about conservation & efficient use of electricity and water. It motivates the whole society to work together for a social cause, contributing to the goals and ambitions of the Qatar National Vision (QNV) 2030.
The prime target of the campaign is to reduce the per capita water and electricity consumption in Qatar by 35% & 20%, respectively during five years
