Qatar General Electricity and Water Corporation (KAHRAMAA), represented by National Program for Conservation and Energy Efficiency (Tarsheed), marked the World Water Day along with several events which was held at KAHRAMAA Awareness Park (KAP) from 19- 21st March.
This year observance of World Water Day took place across the world under the theme ‘Leaving no one behind’. The theme is an adaptation of the central promise of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development: as sustainable development progresses, everyone must benefit.
The event aimed at highlighting the water issues and the importance of saving water by the society to reflect the theme of this year’s observance. The observance of the specific day at KAHRAMAA was to ensure the implementation of Sustainable Development Goal 6 which is water for all by 2030.
KAHRAMAA pledged to help achieving the goal by saving potable water for everyone. It endeavors to achieve its mission of ‘Providing High Quality and Sustainable Electricity and Water for Better Living in Qatar’. It also aims to increase social advocacy and environmental compliance. It applies a comprehensive strategy to achieve an integrated and sustainable management for Qatar water resources within the increasing environmental challenges.
Several activities were organized at the occasion to increase the awareness of water conservation. The ‘Qatoura and its seventh world’ was the attraction of the event showing the character’s water journey. The event also witnessed few workshops such as methods of purifying and filtering water, recycling of waste water, drawing and coloring, story- telling, water- based games revolving around conservation themes and theatric performances among others.
It is worth mentioning that this event took place within the framework of the National Program for Conservation and Energy Efficiency “Tarsheed”, which was launched by KAHRAMAA in 2012 under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al-Thani, Emir of the State. The program aims at raising awareness regarding the efficient usage of electricity and water. The outcomes of Tarsheed are remarkable in terms of reducing electricity and water consumption per capita as well as savings of QR 5 billion until 2018 from the day of the launching of the program.
