“KAHRAMAA” celebrated the World Environment Day which falls on June 5 every
year. It was marked with many activities and events to raise awareness of the
importance of preserving the environment. This year's World Environment Day
theme is "Beat Plastic Pollution - If You Can’t Reuse it, Refuse it”

President of KAHRAMAA said:” KAHRAMAA celebration of the World Environment Day
2018 comes within the Corporation commitment to achieve Qatar National Vision
2030, which was established by His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani,
Emir of the State of Qatar. The fourth pillar of the said Vision is devoted for
environmental development and environmental conservation for future generations. "
KAHRAMAA President added that KAHRAMAA attaches
great importance to the environment and to reducing harmful emissions. He also
noted that the Corporation succeeded through the National Program for
Conservation and Energy Efficiency (Tarsheed) in reducing carbon emissions by
10.2 million tons since the launch of the program in 2012 and until the end of
2017. Besides, KAHRAMAA is keen to consolidate and spread the culture of
sustainability among all segments of society.
KAHRAMAA Health, Safety and Environment
Department launched on this occasion an awareness-raising competition on this
year's World Environment Day theme “Beating Plastic Pollution”, to increase KAHRAMAA
staff awareness and urge them to change daily habits to reduce plastic
pollution, which is considered as one of the most dangerous pollutants that
have a great impact on the environment and society.
KAHRAMAA is working on
ensuring the achievement of its corporate objective of increasing social
awareness and compliance with environmental requirements. It succeeded in
implementing the recycling program for paper waste to preserve the environment
(about 37.5 tons of paper in 2017), in addition to the electricity network
Electromagnetic Emissions Assessment and Monitoring program to ensure that
these emissions don’t have negative effects on the environment and the health
of the individuals. As well, KAHRMAA transformed the environmental permit
system from a paper system into an electronic one because of its positive
impact on the environment, its speed and services accuracy. KAHRAMAA also works
hard to increase its staff environmental awareness through training programs in
environmental fields such as carbon footprint, air and soil pollution and
others
Measures have also been adopted to ensure the
safe disposal of hazardous waste in KAHRAMAA through the conclusion of a
hazardous waste treatment contract with Mesaieed Hazardous Waste Treatment
Center.
The World Environment Day is a global platform
to increase awareness and take measures on pressing issues ranging from marine
pollution and global warming down to sustainable consumption and wildlife crimes.
Millions of individuals have participated over the years in this event which helped
to bring a change in consumer habits as well as in national and international
environmental policies.
