A delegation of the District Cooling Services Department of Qatar General Electricity & Water Corporation (KAHRAMAA) led by its Manager, Eng. Abdul Azeez Al- Hammadi recently toured the District Cooling plant located at Mall of Qatar. The purpose of the visit was to see the functionality of the plant and adopted regulations in line with the prevailing guidelines.
The delegation followed up the functioning of the plant that provides the mall with central cooling services embedded with the cooling capacity of 17500 tons. The plant utilizes the treated water effluent being supplied from water recycling plant, which increases the efficiency of plant’s performance.
By organizing and monitoring district cooling services, the Corporation aims at saving electricity and potable water, sustaining water resources, preserving environment and using all new technologies of district cooling services to be in line with the objectives of Qatar National Vision 2030.
KAHRAMAA emphasizes the importance of ensuring water security in the State, using Treated Sewage Effluent (TSE) and finding other alternatives of potable water replacing it with TSE and making mandatory the use of it at all operational District Cooling Plants/Stations and supporting under construction plants to ensure timely implementation of the regulation.
It is worth mentioning that implementing district cooling system in residential and commercial projects contributes in saving electricity consumption by 30 – 40% and desalinated water by 98% through using TSE. It also reduces carbon emissions by reducing consumption of the natural gas that needed in electricity production, enhancing environment and reducing the noise pollution.
