The State of Qatar celebrates, with the Arab countries, the Arab Water Day on 3rd March. The date was assigned at the first the Arab Mistrial Water Council held in Algeria in 2009. Water issues occupy the highest priority in our life as water is a key element in the Arab water security where all national development plans should be integrated to achieve. The Arab region suffers from water scarcity, lack of rain, and demand increase due to population increase and the rapid economic development.
The State of Qatar, under the leadership of H.H. Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani the Emir of Qatar, supports all efforts to address water challenges to ensure the sustainability of resources. It goes in line with the theme of Arab Water Day “lets conserve water to achieve the sustainable development”. This year, we pay great concern to awareness as a way to conserve resources since water consumption in Qatar is one of the highest in the world.
The State of Qatar is pursuing a clear policy as part of the Natural Recourses Management Strategy, which is the road map to ensure its sustainability and to protect the rights of the coming generations. It is a common responsibility for all to stop waste and observe sound consumption daily habits to ensure the achievement of the sustainable development.
KAHRAMAA endeavors to deeply root the culture of conservation through the National Program for Conservation and Energy Efficiency “Tarsheed” KAHRAMAA launched in 2012 under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al- Thani, the Emir of Qatar.
The prime target of Tarsheed polices and strategies is to approach and educate all society about the value of resources conservation to achieve QNV 2030. Tarsheed aims to reduce the per capita water and electricity consumption in Qatar by 35% & 20%, respectively up to 2017.
I seize the opportunity to invite all nationals and expatriates to cooperate in reducing consumption. It is an ethical, national, and religious responsibility to keep the source of life and ensure better living for the coming generations. “lets conserve water to achieve the sustainable development”.
