KAHRAMAA Launches Tarsheed’s Electric Charging Stations

Installing and Operating 2 Electric Charging Stations at Fire Station Museum and Qatar National Library

Qatar General Electricity & Water Corporation “KAHRAMAA", through the National Program for Conservation & Energy Efficiency “Tarsheed", has announced the installing and operating “Tarsheed station" No. 20 and 21 to charge the electric vehicle in Fire Station Museum and Qatar National Library on Monday 13 September 2021.

H.E. Eng. Essa bin Hilal Al-Kuwari, KAHRAMAA's President, said: “In KAHRAMAA, we are committed to support the sustainability system in Qatar. One of the most important objectives is utilizing the electrical cars and providing the needed infrastructure to implement the stations in line with Qatar National Vision 2030 and sustainable development requirements that comes within Paris Agreement abided by State of Qatar and KAHRAMAA. 

H.E. added: “Today, we are proud to support the (cultural sector) which is one of the most important sectors seeks to achieve sustainability. KAHRAMAA has completed installation of two stations in the most prominent cultural places in the country, Qatar National Library and Fire Station Museum which is the emerging artists forum related to Qatar Museums Authority. We have previous fruitful cooperation relations with those two authorities in the field of sustainability, environmental protection and reducing harmful carbon emissions to reach carbon neutrality level in the year 2050." 

The stations 20 and 21 have been added to the electric cars charging stations group implemented and operated by KAHRAMAA. The rapid charging stations comes under the category of 50 KW DC and the total charging time of the car does not take more than 20 minutes.

Eng. Abdulaziz Al-Hamadi, Manager of Conservation and Energy Efficiency Department at KAHRAMAA, said: “These stations come within the first phase of completing the infrastructure of electric charging stations network for electric vehicles in the country, which is “Installation and operation of many pilot stations" that KAHRAMAA works to complete. A group of pilot stations have been implemented to test the quality of provided services and test the appropriate standards for the State of Qatar as well as the various operation methods. 21 Effective charging stations have been accomplished at all sectors, and 6 new more stations will be installed in cooperation with many ministries and authorities".    

It is worth mentioning that KAHRAMAA is about to complete awarding the general tender GTC 1011-2020 to install and operate 100 electric charging stations around the State. This tender is the foundation of the first infrastructure for the electric charging stations. Within this tender, 100 electric charging stations will be installed and operated by the current year 2021. The capacities of the stations are different according to places, standards and specification arranged by KAHRAMAA for electric charging in the State.   

This tender also comes within the cooperative working plan between Ministry of Transport and Communications and Qatar General Electricity and Water Corporation “KAHRAMAA". It aims to implement a comprehensive network of stations, in according with many institutions in the State such as Ministry of Municipality and Environment, General Directorate of Traffic and others.

KAHRAMAA, through the National Program for Conservation “Tarsheed", seeks to provide a healthy and safety environment for the coming generations to cope with Qatar National Vision 2030 by promoting the sustainability, reducing the harmful carbon emissions to achieve the corporations' commitment of the second National Strategic Development of the State 2018-2020 as well as Paris Agreement.
