To meet its needs of electric switches

The Qatar General Electricity and Water Corporation "KAHRAMAA" has signed a QR 63mn 3-year contract with a local Qatari factory to supply electric switches on a supply on demand basis.

According to the contract signed by HE Eng. Essa bin Hilal Al-Kuwari, President of KAHRAMAA, and HE Sheikh Suhaim bin Abdulaziz Al Thani, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Al Bidda Switchgear Factory, the factory will supply KAHRAMAA’s needs for switches, after demand has recently doubled, as a result of the construction and development boom in the country, and the accompanying increased demand for electricity. The switches will be kept in the supplier’s warehouse and will be supplied directly to the contractors, within two days after receipt of a supply order.

This contract is an extension of a previous QR 3.3mn contract signed by KAHRAMAA with the same factory to supply distribution boards and falls within the framework of the plans to increase the stock of materials needed to develop the electricity network, support national products, and the Qatari economy. KAHRAMAA is keen to give local companies priority in tenders, with the aim of promoting their competitiveness.

Awarding the tender to Al Bidda Factory is another demonstration of KAHRAMAA’s continuous support for Qatari factories, which motivates others to invest in this field, and encourages them to engage in tenders, especially since legislation gives preference to national products.

Further, it is worth noting that KAHRAMAA provides technical support to local factories to make them eligible for listing on the suppliers’ list. This falls in line with strategies to encourage the private sector according to the principle of economic innovation. KAHRAMAA also has already signed contracts with several factories, in order to diversify its sources locally and globally. Through this, it encourages and promotes local investment and diversifies its base, after these factories have proven their ability to compete with their counterparts in supplying the needed materials.
