KAHRAMAA Observes Earth Hour

1
Qatar General Electricity and Water Corporation "KAHRAMAA" marked the global event "Earth Hour" by turning off the lights at its various buildings for an hour, from 8:30 until 9:30 pm on Saturday 28 March 2020. This year the observance of Earth Hour was under the slogan “Raise Your Voice for Nature”.
HE Eng. Essa bin Hilal Al-Kuwari, President of Qatar General Electricity and Water Corporation "KAHRAMAA" said: "We welcome Earth Hour this year in exceptional circumstances amidst the spread of the new Coronavirus (Covid-19) across the world, and with concerted efforts to combat this virus and emphasize the need to stay at home, I invite everyone to participate in the Earth Hour initiative to show solidarity in facing climate change and global warming issues, by turning off lights and unnecessary electrical appliances for an hour as a symbolic action to raise awareness of the importance of conserving energy consumption to save natural resources and protect the environment."
"Participation in this initiative reflects commitment towards the Earth by rationalizing consumption, preserving the environment, and reducing carbon emissions, as national responsibility and  moral obligation," he added.
KAHRAMAA is keen on celebrating Earth Hour  annually and participating in this global event with the aim of spreading awareness about preserving the planet and countering the dangers threatening it, as well as on the importance of energy efficiency and conservation among members of society so that it becomes an integral part of everyone's daily lifestyle and a shared and irreplaceable responsibility in order to conserve resources, and ensure the achievement of the goals of the National Program for Conservation and Energy Efficiency "Tarsheed" in reducing  per capita consumption of electricity and water and reducing carbon emissions, paving the way to sustainable development as per QNV 2030.
KAHRAMAA had invited all members of society and various sectors in the State of Qatar to participate in this initiative and to observe this symbolic hour by turning off all lights and unnecessary electrical devices along with millions of individuals in various parts of the globe, to show their solidarity with each other in facing the impact of climate change.
It is worth noting that Earth Hour is the largest global environmental initiative aimed at uniting efforts on climate change launched by the World Wide Fund for Nature in 2007. Sydney, Australia, was the first city to start this campaign. Then the scope of the event expanded to become a global solidarity movement in which millions around the world participate by turning off the lights and unnecessary electrical appliances, in addition to turning off the lights of the most prominent landmarks and buildings around the world from 8:30 to 9:30 pm on the last Saturday of March every year.
