1

Qatar General Electricity and Water Corporation (KAHRAMAA) will host the 2nd Arab Water Conference between May 27 and 29, at Sheraton Resort & Convention Centre.

Informing this, Kahramaa president HE Eng. Essa bin Hilal al-Kuwari said the conference will be held under the theme “Towards smart management for the water sector in the Arab region through innovative and sustainable solutions.” Many senior officials and ministers serving in the water sector in Arab countries will participate.

Al-Kuwari said the conference will discuss vital issues concerning conservation of water.  It is hoped to provide a platform to help reach a common understanding of what is required urgently to address scarcity of water and sustainable management of water resources in Arab states.

The Kahramaa president said scarcity of water is a critical issue, exacerbated by demographic pressures, climatic changes and pollution, and providing a strategic platform to exchange expertise is crucial.

“The Arab world is not immune to such challenges and there are enormous pressures on the region’s states to meet their social and economic requirements that surpass the capacity of the dwindling resources and diminishing natural water supplies”.

Al-Kuwari recalled that since the formation of the Kahramaa in the year 2000, the corporation is not only ensuring uninterrupted supply of high quality water and electricity but is also promoting sustainable development and foster long-term investments in innovation. It is done to support the country’s development in line with the goals and objectives of the Qatar National Vision 2030, he said.

One of the main issues to be discussed at the three-day meeting is how to enhance the ideology of water security within the Arab countries, said the president. Issues such as the importance of revamping necessary institutional structures and promulgating legislation in member-countries in order to ensure uninterrupted supply of water to the region’s residents would feature in the deliberations.

Director of Kahramaa Water network affairs Eng. Ali Saif al-Malki, Director of Customer Services, Nasser Ali Al-Mohannadi and Abdulaziz bin Abdullah al-Kuwari of Qatar Mice Development Institute, Kahramaa PR manager,  Abdulla Anbar al Jassim were also present at the meeting recently held.
