Qatar General
Electricity and Water Corporation “KAHRAMAA” successfully commissioned Al-Wa'ab
City Metro substation, the third Doha Metro electricity substation that KAHRAMAA
implements for Qatar Rail.
On
this occasion, KAHRAMAA President H.E. Eng. Essa bin Hilal Al-Kuwari said "As the Corporation is a key partner in the
development projects that the State is witnessing, we are proud to supply power to Doha Metro
project “
KAHRAMAA President
explained that Doha Metro substations were given priority in awarding projects,
it is one of KAHRAMAA challenges which was successfully implemented with the highest
quality standards.
All technical requirements pertinent to the use of technology that ensures the
continuity of electrical energy in emergency cases were adopted.
He also added:
"one year has passed on the unjust blockade imposed on Qatar and yet we
are celebrating today the completion of the third substation out of five electricity
substation that are implemented by KAHRAMAA for Qatar Rail " emphasizing
that the Corporation can expand the service if needed in the future”
He
concluded by saying “we
reiterate our commitment to complete all infrastructure projects on time in
conformity with the instructions of His Highness Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al
Thani, Amir of the State Qatar and with the full support of our wise government.”
Al
Waab City Metro 132/33 KV substation located in Al Waab area, is part of the 12th
phase of the Qatar
Power Transmission System Expansion project. It was awarded in 2016 and is fed by Al Waab
Super Substation with 1.3 km long and 132 Kv cable. The project total cost is
around QR 100 million.
KAHRAMAA in
cooperation with Qatar Rail is working to provide the highest standards of
reliability and consistency in its electrical network in conformity with the
highest international standards and according to the Metro requirements
Additionally, KAHRAMAA’s
main concern is to adopt and implement the highest standards of safety and
security in its activities and operations. Hence, all along the 30 months of
work on the project, with more than 816,000 work hours completed at Al Waab
City Metro substation without Lost Time Injury (LTI). As well, the Corporation
is committed to providing the highest standards of welfare and living
conditions to its staff in recognition of their role as partners in success,
which positively affect productivity
KAHRAMAA is
implementing five substations for Qatar Rail to supply Doha Metro with all its
electricity needs at a total cost of about 700 million Qatari Riyals. Ras Abu
Fontas the first substation was commissioned in July 2017 followed by Lusail substation
in March 2018. The next substation will soon be commissioned in west of Doha in
addition to Al Bidaa substation, which will include parking facilities. It is
expected to be commissioned in the second half of 2019
