It comes this year under the theme of    “water – food – energy Nexus .. life sustainability”. KAHRAMAA recognizes the key role water plays to achieve the sustainable development and support the economic and urban development the State witnesses. The event is meant to shed light on the challenges meet the fresh water resources in the Arab world and the importance of introducing solutions to achieve the sustainable development.

The theme of Arab Water Day this year aligns with KAHRAMAA mission of “Providing High Quality and Sustainable Electricity and Water for Better Living in Qatar”. KAHRAMAA recognizes the water, food, energy nexus within its commitment to meet the requirements of the sustainable development.

The scarcity of water resources and the increase of water per capita consumption were the motive to launch the National Program for the Conservation and Energy Efficiency Program “Tarsheed” in 2012 under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al- Thani, the Emir of Qatar. Tarsheed aims to reduce per capita consumption of water by 35% and electricity by 20% in five years.

Through Tarsheed, KAHRAMAA endeavors to increase society awareness of the indispensability of reducing electricity and water consumption to reach the acceptable per capita rates and increase energy efficiency by a number of techniques, legislations, and initiatives. KAHRAMAA seeks to make use of the renewable energy, introduce new technologies for water desalination as per the highest quality standards to increase energy efficiency and achieve sustainability.

On this occasion, KAHRAMAA renews its commitment to its mission of providing water services to customers as per the highest international standards; and develop its water infrastructure to efficiently meet Qatar need of water. KAHRAMAA also continues in promoting water strategic reserves program to ensure Qatar water security where KAHRAMAA managed to achieve a remarkable development in 2016 by adding an additional capacity of 77 MIG to the strategic storage to reach 1336 MIG.
