GCC Power 2016 opens in Doha

Under the patronage of the Qatar’s Minister of Energy and Industry, HE Dr. Mohammed bin Saleh Al Sada, the 12th GCC CIGRE International conference & 21st exhibition for Electrical Equipment opened today amidst the presence of GCCIA Chairman and Board of Directors, Cigre’s Secretary- General, GCC Cigre’s Chairperson, dignitaries, large number of exhibitors, delegates, participants, experts, transmission and distribution industry professionals, technology leaders among others.
The three- day event which is being held under the theme ‘Toward Energy Efficiency’ was inaugurated today at Sheraton Doha by HE Eng Essa Bin Hilal Al Kuwari, KAHRAMAA’s President. The International Conference & Exhibition offers good opportunity for utility industry professionals to discuss and share their views and experiences concerning relevant aspects of research, manufacturing and utility management.
Delivering his inaugural speech, KAHRAMAA’s President HE Eng Al Kuwari welcomed all the visitors and guests and said that under the wise and praiseworthy leadership of His Highness the Emir, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al- Thani, Qatar supports scientific conferences and gatherings in all sectors including utility, aiming overall development of the country.
Speaking at the occasion and appreciating the theme of the event, he said that the Energy efficiency plays great role as scientific studies and practices prove that energy efficiency is one of the cheapest energies and one of the largest energy sources in many countries due to its power savings and economic benefits.
“GCC Power 2016 will tackle this issue in details during the scheduled panel discussions. The State of Qatar stresses its commitment to energy efficiency as envisaged in QNV 2030. We endeavor to use the state of the art technology while adhering to energy conservation, executing smart grids, and increasing the operational capacity of generation plants targeting reduction in carbon emission to protect the environment as a strategic option for our generations to come”, he added.
 
The three- day event will have a number of panel discussions, presentations, plenary sessions, tutorials and research- related activities among others. The opening session of the conference was focused on energy efficiency in which participating leaders and decision makers presented the overviews including strategies being adopted across the globe in the arena of power conservation and shed light on the importance of renewable energy to increase the efficiency globally.
GCC-Cigre was established under the umbrella of the Gulf Cooperative Council in accordance with a recommendation from their Excellencies GCC Ministers of Electricity & Water during their second meeting held in Kuwait on 22nd April 1985 under the patronage and auspices of Gulf Cooperative Council. The GCC’s General Secretariat, together with the Secretary General, of the International Council for large Electric Systems “CIGRE” drafted the Committee’s basic law. The Committee, a non- profit institution, is an affiliate of the International Council and is mainly devoted to encourage and develop scientific researches and studies in the field of Electricity Systems.
