“Less Is Blessed” KAHRAMAA Activities Title for the Holy Month of Ramadan

​By the beginning of Holy Month of Ramadan, Qatar General Electricity and Water Corporation “KAHRAMAA”, presented in Conservation and Energy Efficiency Department “Tarsheed”, has launched its technical and educational programs under the slogan of “Less Is Blessed” within plans and objectives of the National Program for Conservation and Energy Efficiency “Tarsheed” through many events and activities particularly arranged for the Holy Month in order to reduce electricity and water consumption rate per capita in Qatar.  

“Tarsheed” program aims at reaching all sectors and categories with its various messages through daily distributing awareness conservative posters in mosques of the state and residential districts. Those posters have messages urge people on water conservation while ablution, optimal using of lighting and air conditioners especially in family gathering during “Iftar Time” at home or during watching TV programs; and turning of the lighting and air conditioners in vacancy rooms. Those publications also comes in seven languages which are Arabic, English, India, Ordo, Malayalam, Filipino and Bangladeshi in order to reach the largest possible number of communities within the society and urged them to conservation. 

A campaign of “Less Is Blessed” has been published in major consuming Malls to reach all family members while they are shopping especially for foodstuffs, through active cooperation with Lulu Hypermarket in Qatar. Awareness kiosks about conservation and energy efficiency have been allocated in Lulu Malls at D Ring Road, Al-Khor, and Al-Gharafa. The campaign also included printing its messages on the bags of materials and goods as well as the major display screens at all Lulu Centers.

Regarding to social media platforms, KAHRAMAA launched “Ramadan Conservation Challenge” which is an amusing competition contains many questions about conservation and energy efficiency and ways of preserving resources and environment where a question has been asked every two days on Instagram “Tarsheed” and Twitter @TarsheedQatar. When the answers are received, two winners are selected for each question in Instagram and Twitter. Many targeted videos about water and electricity conserving consumption also have broadcasted at all “Tarsheed” social media channels.

In the framework of joint cooperation with civil society foundations, Tarsheed involves with RAF Charity Foundation in an event at Al-Arabi Club (Iftar Tent) on Friday 17/06/2016. This event have many cultural and awareness activities where they will give a lecture about conservation in (ordo) and (Indian) languages. Those lectures will mention the importance of conservation in the lives of individuals, giving simplified explains to infractions of law, indicating any irregularities resulting from each violation and how to find appropriate solutions to avoid falling into these irregularities. By the end of lecture, they will have a simple contest presented in asking the audience some questions on conservation and then they will distribute symbolic gifts to winners.

The Legal Monitoring Section at Conserving and Energy Efficiency also follow-up all notifications related to wasting and makes intensive inspection campaigns to apply Conservation Law No. 20 for the year 2015 to regulate consumption and alerting the costumes to the law, violations, and penalties to commit; in order to preserve the state’s resources and to achieve sustainable environment development which is one of the most important pillars of Qatar National Vision 2030. 

KAHRAMAA works during the past years through National Program For Conserving and Energy Efficiency “Tarsheed” to educate audience in reducing wasting of electricity and water. the program succeeded in reducing the consumption rate per capita of electricity by 14% and water by 17% till November 2015. The program aims at achieving the desired objectives presented in reducing consumption of electricity by 20% and water by 35% during coming period to preserve the state’s wealth “Keep Qatar Pulsing”.
