KAHRAMAA invites entries for Tarsheed Conserving Building Competition

​Qatar General Electricity & Water Corporation (KAHRAMAA)  has started receiving entries for its fourth annual ‘Conserving Building Competition’ being organized as part of the National Program for Conservation and Energy Efficiency- Tarsheed.
 
The fourth edition of the competition launched by the Conservation and Energy Efficiency Department with the slogan, “Become one with Nature”, is open to all buildings comprising of industrial, governmental, commercial, and residential, sports venues and tourism sectors. 

Tarsheed Conserving Building Competition recognizes the buildings that incorporate, support and promote best practices in conservation of energy, water and other natural resources.

Interested parties can apply for the competition via KAHRAMAA website www.km.com.qa/tarsheed where they can view the terms and conditions for participating in the contest and fill up the completed form. The entry is open from February 10 to March 10, 2016. For more information, participants may call up 44846878.

The contest started primarily with four sectors in 2012 initially - Commercial, Government, Residential and Industrial sectors in its first year. Sports Venues Sector and tourism were added later. 
Only existing and operational buildings are eligible to enter the competition, excluding buildings with conventional window air conditioners and buildings having landscape with flood irrigation systems.

The entries will be evaluated in several phases by a panel of experts representing research centers, universities; ministries among others. Winning buildings from each sector shall receive a prize and a certificate for being a role model in the field of Building Conservation and shall be honored during the 4th Tarsheed Annual Celebration to be held on April 21, 2016.

The buildings shall be evaluated based on the specific criteria set out by a team of qualified experts to test efficient design of Mechanical Electrical & Plumbing (MEP) systems in all buildings which in turn includes HVAC System, lighting, plumbing fixtures, building automation, sustainability measures, specific energy/ water consumption, building envelope for roof & façade, landscape, operation and maintenance measures. 

The objectives of the competition are to create awareness about the Building Conservation Concept in all sectors of the society, create public awareness on the benefits of Building Conservation practices (energy, water), and motivate consumers to adopt Building Conservation practices in the local Construction market and to mobilize people and encourage them to embrace Energy Conservation strategies.

“Conserving buildings” are buildings that reduce electricity and water consumption, carbon emissions, and provide better living for residents in State of Qatar. The, National Program for Conservation and Energy Efficiency- Tarsheed through its multi- folded strategies and initiatives, aims at reaching all segments of the society to create awareness for the conservation  and  to  motivate the whole society to work together for a special cause, contributing to the goals and ambitions of the Qatar National Vision (QNV) 2030. 

The prime target of the Program is to reduce the per capita water and electricity consumption in Qatar by 35% & 20%, respectively during five years.
