As part of its efforts to promote conservation, Qatar General Electricity & Water Corporation (KAHRAMAA) with the Ministry of Endowments & Islamic Affairs (AWQAF) and Arshedny Center organized a two-day (15-16 November) awareness workshop for mosques’ Imams and preachers emphasizing the religious aspects of its ongoing National Program for Conservation and Energy Efficiency (Tarsheed) at its iconic Awareness Park.
A large number of Imams and preachers attended the event including senior functionaries of participating organizations. KAHRAMAA, through Tarsheed, aims at rationalizing the consumption of water and electricity and intensifying the culture of conservation of vital resources in Qatar.
The Program which was initiated as a National campaign for Efficient Use of Water and Electricity was launched for five years in 2012 on earth day which falls every year on April 22. In a very short span of time since its launching, Tarsheed has won many awards for its ground- breaking works in Qatar.
Tarsheed, through its multi- folded strategies and program, aims at reaching all segments of the society to create awareness for conserving the precious resources. It motivates the whole society to work together, contributing to the envisaged goals and ambitions of the Qatar National Vision (QNV) 2030.
KAHRAMAA has also joined hands with a number of organizations including schools to give impetus to the program for its successful implementation across the country. It has also signed a number of MoUs with various kinds of organizations to implement its objectives and help inculcating conservation culture among masses.
The prime target of the Tarsheed is to reduce the per capita water and electricity consumption in Qatar by 35% & 20%, respectively until 2017.
KAHRAMAA plays an indispensible role in Qatar’s development, working in accordance with the aims of Qatar National Vision 2030 and National Development Strategy 2011- 2016 (NDS). Tarsheed also helps in reducing pressure during peak months by its saving techniques and methodologies. It looks forward to integrate the whole Qatar community for their worth participation as broadly as possible. KAHRAMAA also appeals to all Qatar’s residents to take an active role in the program, calling for cooperation and adherence to the water and electricity bylaws for the Tarsheed’s success.
