The Qatar General Electricity and Water Corporation (KAHRAMAA) is all set to observe one hour of darkness on Saturday, March 28 to mark Earth Hour, joining world communities to protect environment. The earth hour will be observed from 8.30- 9.30 PM at KAHRAMAA’s main tower located at Dafna area.
The Conservation and Energy Efficiency Department of KAHRAMAA will observe the 60 minutes of the year 2015 under its slogan, “Give Your Light Bulbs a Break”.
On this occasion, KAHRAMAA has called upon all the sectors to switch off the electricity showing solidarity with the movement. With the guidelines of Qatar National Vision 2030 and National Development Strategy (2011- 2016), KAHRAMAA has been taking initiatives for sustainability and environment.
KAHRAMAA is committed to its responsibility for providing sustainable resources for electricity and water for the benefits of the nation and for improving the quality life for the generations to come in line with QNV 2030 which calls for environmental management and protection aimed at ensuring harmony and consistency with economic and social development.
Keeping in view the conservation and rationalization of natural resources, KAHRAMAA in coordination with Ministry of Environment is phasing out high glow more energy- consuming lamps and other electrical appliances in phases with energy- saving lamps and less consuming and eco- friendly appliances as per International standards.
The National program for Conservation and Energy Efficiency (Tarsheed) which was launched as a campaign in year 2012 under the patronage of His Highness the Emir, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al- Thani, is marching towards achieving good result. The prime target of Tarsheed is to reduce the per capita water and electricity consumption in Qatar by 35% & 20%, respectively up to 2017.
